Going to live with your sister and find a date to Groundhog Getaway? Sounds easy, right?

Icing on the Lake by Catherine Clark is a cute romantic young adult novel. We follow Kirsten through New Year's Eve to Groundhog Day. Kirsten learns a lot about herself, her sister, and the guy she thinks she likes.

What I liked

  • It’s all in the first person. Usually, this is an iffy thing for me, but the way, Ms. Clark did it is different. We not only see Kirsten’s character development, but we see her sister’s, her nephew, and everyone else.

  • That the setting is around Groundhog’s Day, not a whole lot of people do this.

  • The conversations between Kirsten and Conor were hilarious.

  • The relationship she has with her nephew.

What I didn’t like

One of the things I dislike is that Sean and Conor’s have this whole competition thing, they compete over everything. Another thing that I didn’t like is that Sean didn't act like he was present for the conversations he was having with Kirsten. This is a great way to tell if that person is compatible with you and Sean wasn’t doing a great job. I dislike that Kirsten thought her sister wasn’t mature. Due to Kirsten's sister only remembers the way she was when they were growing up, and she was in high school. The last thing I dislike is the little love triangle between Sean, Conor, and Kirsten but in 2006 this was popular.

Five Stars

Icing on the Lake by Catherine Clark is a remarkable story about finding love in a few weeks. Kirsten, Sean, and Conor all grew in this story and definitely for the better. A perfect little winter love story for Groundhog’s Day. I highly recommend this book to those who love young adult romances.
