Forever A Father by Lynne Marshall

Forever A Father (The Delaneys of Sandpiper Beach, #1)

by Lynne Marshall

"Once upon a time, Dr. Daniel Delaney had it all. But he lost it in the blink of an eye, and he won't let himself fall again -- not even for his dedicated new assistant, Keela O'Mara, and her adorable, lonely little girl, Anna. Resisting a starry-eyed four-year-old is tough enough. Denying her perfect, loving single mom may be more than Daniel can handle..." -- page [4] of cover.

Forever a Father by Lynne Marshall

I enjoy books with children in them, especially when the author gets their behavior consistent with their ages. Author Lynne Marshall created such a lovable character in Anna, the almost 5-year-old daughter of Keela.

The story was very much about Keela and Daniel (and Anna). While there were quite a few other characters in the book, the majority of the story revolved around just these two and their interactions. I was so glad that their relationship was so clearly not centered only on a physical attraction.

I also really appreciated that the tragedies in each of their lives were explained early on in the book instead of having the hints throughout and them not revealed until the end. It helped to better understand their motivations.

Daniel was a great hero. From his feeble attempts to resist Anna’s charms, his fear of getting hurt again, to doing the right things to show kindness even when it hurt, his character was just right.

Please note that I do not consider this story to be a clean romance. I didn’t realize that when I started the book. I would describe it as PG-13+. There are a couple places where Dan and Keela sleep together and while the act is not described, there are things that are described that put this beyond the level of romance I am generally comfortable with. If the book had been cleaner, I would have given it a higher rating.
