Dangerously Dark was another fun, chocolate-filled mystery, although not quite as fun or chocolate-filled as Hayden's first case. This time she's in Portland, Oregon for her college friend's engagement party. While there, Carissa is excitedly showing off her ice cream truck, when she trips over her fiance's dead body! The police deem it an accident, but after Hayden's experience at the chocolate retreat the previous week, she's not convinced. Somewhere hides a murderer!
I did have to roll my eyes a bit at Dangerously Dark, because Hayden is completely convinced that she's a detective. She really had no reason to get involved in this case. She'd never met the guy and Carissa didn't seem too broken up over Declan's death either. Plus, there was no obvious evidence. But Hayden sees murder everywhere now and must solve this case! Obviously, she's correct in thinking that Declan was murdered, but it was still strange just how determined and stubborn she was on the issue.
Once again, I had fun playing along. Dangerously Dark was especially fun to me because all the clues pointed to a "If I can't have him, no one can!" type of murder! Was it the fiance or the ex-girlfriend?! It could be either trying to keep the other away from her man! I really cannot tell you why I'm so obsessed with this plot, I just am. Sadly, the conclusion was a bit unsatisfying. The murderer's big speech was quite creepy. Duh, they're a murderer! But it was just...odd. I don't know. It just didn't feel believable, I guess. Maybe if had known a bit more about the deceased prior, but when we meet him he's already dead. Oh well.
