Liar's Moon by Elizabeth Bunce

Liar's Moon

by Elizabeth Bunce

Prisons, poisons, and passions combine in a gorgeously written fantasy noir.

As a pickpocket, Digger expects to spend a night in jail every now and then. But she doesn't expect to find Lord Durrel Decath there as well--or to hear he's soon to be executed for killing his wife.

Durrel once saved Digger's life, and when she goes free, she decides to use her skills as a thief, forger, and spy to return the favor. But each new clue only opens up new mysteries. Durrel's late wife had an illegal business on the wrong side of the civil war raging just outside the city gates. Digger keeps finding forbidden magic in places it has no reason to be.

And for a thief in a town full of liars, sometimes it doesn't pay to know the truth.

I appreciate that [a:Elizabeth Bunce|800019|Elizabeth C. Bunce|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1227139898p2/800019.jpg] obviously heeded my review of [b:Star Crossed|7877549|Star Crossed (Thief Errant, #1)|Elizabeth C. Bunce|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1328839393s/7877549.jpg|11068967] when I said I wanted more Durrell Decath. Because that's exactly what I got in this book! And I loved it. I loved getting to know Raffin Taradyce better was well. I ended up liking Koya a lot also. But I'm left wanting more of Weirolf.

And when such an interesting world is populated by such great characters, it'd be hard not to like this book. There were minor things I didn't love. Bunce isn't as emotional of a writer as I'd perhaps prefer. She acknowledges emotion in her characters so they don't feel distant or dry but she doesn't really delve into emotion in a way that evokes it in the reader. And yet, I think she's a great writer.

And the ending! How dare you end on a cliffhanger and not even have the next book listed on goodreads so I know what I need to look forward to and when it will come out and what the bloody thing is even called. not fair.
But you know what? It didn't need to end on a cliffhanger because I was already excited to read the next one, hoping that there was a next one to read because I enjoy Celyn and this world so much.

This is one of those rare books that I don't mind that it's written in 1st person at all. I actually hardly notice it because it's seamless and Celyn is interesting and it feels more like 3rd person omniscient somehow, even though Celyn isn't omniscient. I want more books in this world and more adventures with Celyn.
