The Crown's Fate by Evelyn Skye

The Crown's Fate (Crown's Game, #2)

by Evelyn Skye

The gorgeous and darkly compelling sequel to The Crown’s Game—perfect for fans of Red Queen and Shadow and Bone. A New York Times bestseller!

Magic is growing, shadows are rising, and the throne is at stake…

Russia is on the brink of great change. Pasha’s coronation approaches, and Vika is now the Imperial Enchanter, but the role she once coveted may be more difficult—and dangerous—than she ever expected.

Pasha is grappling with his own problems—his legitimacy is in doubt, the girl he loves loathes him, and he believes his best friend is dead. When a challenger to the throne emerges—and with the magic in Russia growing rapidly—Pasha must do whatever it takes to keep his position and protect his kingdom.

For Nikolai, the ending of the Crown’s Game stung deeply. Although he just managed to escape death, Nikolai remains alone, a shadow hidden in a not-quite-real world of his own creation. But when he’s given a second chance at life—tied to a dark price—Nikolai must decide just how far he’s willing to go to return to the world.

With revolution on the rise, dangerous new magic rearing up, and a tsardom up for the taking, Vika, Nikolai, and Pasha must fight—or face the destruction of not only their world but also themselves.

I was so looking forward to this book, but I was left unsatisfied with how things ended. Nikolai had changed so much from the 1st book it was hard to fathom it was the same character. They way he treated Pasha and Vika often had me cringing and wondering why they even bothered to get through to him.

Then there was the little love triangle. Pasha loved Vika. Nikolai loved Vika. Vika thought what she might feel for Nikola was love but she wasn't sure. I was hoping, come the end of the story, this would all be figured out. But it wasn't. Instead, there the three of them were standing side by side. Are they just friends? We were kinda left hanging there with that one.

I'm glad I read to the book and to see these three work out everything that had pushed them apart. But I ended up wanting much more from these characters than I ultimately got.
