Yeh phew...*keeps fanning herself*...this was def. a step UP from Book 1 [b:Accidental Witness|34395674|Accidental Witness (Morelli Family, #1)|Sam Mariano|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1489216660l/34395674._SY75_.jpg|55492002].
Mateo is very much an Alphahole. He's a giant Alphahole. And he's...got issues.
As he so nicely put it himself, he's not a good man.
However, he does have his good sides, and he can be quite fun.
I absolutely LOVED Meg. She was hilarious and just my kind of crazy. She fit Mateo so well, I think the author did a really good job here.
They together are smoking hawt and Meg's quirkiness and straightforward speech of calling a spade a spade is fantastic. It's just what he needs.
She gives as good as she gets in a way.
Now, Surviving Mateo is def. a title that speaks about the content of the book, because it's very true and Meg literally has to try and survive him, because as mentioned, Mateo can be a very very...bad...man.
He is sinfully sexy though...
This book kept the "red thread" quite well I felt, though I have to admit that the author's penchant for sometimes using fade to black and sometimes giving me scorching scenes is not something I favour. Please for the love of the dark gods just give me ALL the flames MAX the flames, all the time, don't give me fade to black here and there in the middle of a different chapter only to go back to giving me 5x eggplants. I beg you? lol.
This book is quite dark, I would say it's vastly darker than the first one, and it's got a lot of potential triggers. But that's dark romance for you, you can't really get that without triggers.
If you think about everything that is bad in a relationship in real life, and not acceptable - you will probably cover most bases of what kind of man Mateo has the capability of being.
But he's not all bad, and he is sorry, but this isn't RL - this is fiction, and I love it.
Give me a Mateo villainhero any day of the week.
This book had me at the edge of my seat from time to time AND gave me that "heavy stone" feeling in my chest, you know the one? But also gave me a wonderful HEA and humour.
Basically I think book 2 delivered quite well, and therefore I gave it 5*.
On to book 3. Because Adrian?...Also an interesting yum.
