Kindred Spirits by Rainbow Rowell

Kindred Spirits

by Rainbow Rowell

'Everybody likes everything these days. The whole world is a nerd.'
'Are you mad because other people like Star Wars? Are you mad because people like me like Star Wars?'
'Maybe.'

If you broke Elena's heart, Star Wars would spill out. So when she decides to queue outside her local cinema to see the new movie, she's expecting a celebration with crowds of people who love Han, Luke and Leia just as much as she does.

What she's not expecting is to be last in a line of only three people; to have to pee into a collectible Star Wars soda cup behind a dumpster or to meet that unlikely someone who just might truly understand the way she feels.

Kindred Spirits is an engaging short story by Rainbow Rowell, author of the bestselling Eleanor & Park, Fangirl and Carry On, and is part of a handful of selected short reads specially produced for World Book Day.

This one really was a quick read. I finished the entire book at the train station and still had some time left before the train arrived. But the length perfectly suited the story. Had it been any longer, it wouldn't have worked out.
The characters are nice and although I did feel like I have a lot in common with Elena I just couldn't relate much. Maybe it was because the story was rather short but there was no connection there.
Furthermore, speaking of the story in general, I have to say that it was a cute idea but I wasn't carried away or sucked into the story.
Although it was a decent book for a quick read, I ended up somewhat disappointed as had heard nothing but praise for Kindred Spirits before I started reading. I guess this book is not for everyone - at some points I simply thought maybe I'm already to old for that kind of stuff.

Summing I have to say that Kindred Spirits is cute book. It's perfect if you have some time to pass but for me there was no deeper connection. Although everybody else seems to love it, I just couldn't get into it that much.
