Cocktails and Books received this book for free from Inkslinger PR in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect our opinion of the book or the content of our review.I've enjoyed the Ascension series, but I had a hard time reconnecting with the characters in this entry into the series. Cyrene was the hardest, especially because of her interest in random boys that show up in the books. She loved Edric, kinda had a thing for Kael, was engaged to Dean, kinda still had a thing for Kael and then this book introduces another boy that Cyrene develops a relationship with before Dean comes back into the picture. Her flip-flopping made it so I no longer vested in what was happening in the story. I get it, this is YA. But if this heroine is strong enough to lead an army against the Destroyer, then figure out whether you need the man you supposedly love at your side or if you're going to make eyes at every pretty boy that feigns interest in you.
Dragons should have been enough to let me skip over Cyrene's romantic entanglements, but even Sarielle couldn't save this story for me.
