In the first volume of a series chronicling the birth of the state of Israel, the lives of a diverse array of characters collide and intertwine as the British prepare to withdraw from Jerusalem in 1948.
This was a book that at first reading I kinda felt like it was going on and on and on... but then I realized that I was already half way through the book in a really short period of time. It is definitely not a book for those who are sensitive about war. But I do believe that it is a book for Christian, Jew, and Muslim alike. It shows the good and the bad in all. It's a good read and as an introduction to the Thoene's way of writing, a pull to read other novels as well.
