Dangerous Game by LP Dover is kind of an anti-mafia read. Dominic takes over as the head of his family, but he wants out of "the family business". Faith is Dominic's sister's best friend and she is in the middle of a divorce. She stays with Dominic while dealing with the ugliness of her breakup. There is plenty of angst from Faith's marriage dissolving and Dominic's attempts to steer the family 'straight'.

I appreciated that there wasn't much angst between Faith and Dominic. There was always attraction, but she was married. Now that she is back on the market, Dominic doesn't waste time. I appreciated that. There was plenty of other angst and danger to keep the story moving forward. I adored Faith! She was such a great heroine. She isn't a shrinking violet but she isn't blind to her mistakes either. Faith is honest about who she is and I found that was really refreshing.

Dangerous Games does have a bit of a crossover from the Armed and Dangerous & Circle of Justice series and I love when authors do that. If you haven't read that series, I recommend it. I did feel that the suspense/danger of Dangerous Game was probably more intense that the previous stories which worked great for me! I enjoyed the characters and the story, but I still felt like it wasn't anything really 'new' in the genre. While that won't detract from readers who love the genre and trope, some readers might find it trite.

  •   Trope: mafia, Best Friend's brother

  •   Triggers: none

  •   Series/Standalone: stand alone (you don't need to read the crossover books to enjoy this one)

  •   Cliffhanger: no

  •   HEA: yes

The Eagle Elite series by Rachel Van Dyken, Fallen Princess by Chantal Fernando,  ...then you will probably like TITLE OF BOOK!
