Another absolutely beautiful issue from this series. Seriously, I think I’d be happy just to pick up each of these issues and look at them, so it having a decent plot is really just a bonus at this point. I love that David Mack feels comfortable enough to take risks with his art styles in this series. It’s not something you typically see experimented with – especially not multiple times in the same issue. I don’t think some of the styles would work for other plots as well, but they’re still brilliant to see.
I feel like the main character for this series had not intended to go this far down the rabbit hole. I almost feel bad for him. No, scratch that, I absolutely do feel bad for him. The guy is totally in over his head, and while he sometimes seems aware of that fact and other times it feels like he’s blissfully unaware of it. Which naturally means it all keeps coming crashing down on him.
I will say that while the plot didn’t feel like it moved forward much in this issue, there was a decent amount of character development. You can see that the truth of the situation is finally starting to sink in. I don’t think it’s going to change things for this guy, partially because he’s too curious to back out and partially because I don’t think he could back out if he wanted to (I mean, after all he never even signed up for any of this in the first place).
