The Widow's House

by Carol Goodman

When Jess and Clare Martin move to their former college town in the Hudson River Valley, they are hoping for rejuvenation -- of their marriage, their savings, and Jess's writing career. But their new life as caretakers of a crumbling estate isn't all quaint town libraries and fragrant apple orchards. Something is just not right at Riven House.

I LOVE Carol Goodman and was looking forward to catching up on her last few that I haven't read yet, but this one just didn't do it for me. I found every character in it to be insufferable, the pacing dragged, some plot twists felt telegraphed from miles away, and others came out of nowhere without any sufficient foreshadowing to feel like they'd been earned.
