Blind

by Rachel DeWoskin

After an accident leaves her blind, fifteen year old Emma struggles to reclaim her life. Meanwhile, a classmate's body has been found, with all signs pointing to suicide. Determined to understand the girl's actions, and to avoid being perceived as a Poor Blind Kid, Emma sets out to unite her classmates to explore the situation. Along the way, Emma learns to navigate an adolescence made more difficult by her new handicap, but emerges strong. Powerful and moving, this is a beautifully written story of one girl's search for her place in life.

2 1/2 stars would feel more accurate. The beginning and the end of the story delivered, but at 400 pages, the bulk of the novel wasn't as richly layered as I'd hoped. Read my full review of this title at A Lovely Bookshelf on the Wall.
