The Guy on the Right by Kate Stewart

The Guy on the Right (The Underdogs, #1)

by Kate Stewart

Strike One-My mother named me Theodore after her favorite chipmunk.

Not cool, Mom.

I‘ve spent most of my life answering to Teddy, because I couldn’t make Theo work.

Except for here. College. The place where all bets are off, and I’ve managed to redeem myself.
There’s only one problem, my new roommate, Troy, is football royalty and looks like he stepped off the set of an Abercrombie shoot.

Doesn’t matter, I cook a mean breakfast for his panty parade, and we get along well.
And anyway, this year I got the girl. And she’s perfect.

That’s right. Theodore Houseman, former band geek, now marching band rock star has finally landed the girl of his dreams.

Everything is perfect.

That is, until Troy takes a good look at her.

I’m not going down without a fight. As a matter of fact, I’m not going down at all. As glorious as these days may be for my all-star roommate, Laney is my end game.

I may not know much about play strategy, but I’ve been the good guy my whole life. I’ve been listening and I know exactly what women want. Framed in a picture standing next to me, Troy may seem like Mr. Perfect, but he’s underestimating the guy on the right.

Spoiler alert: In this story, the underdog is going to win.

I'd take The Guy on the Right any day of the week...

I can honestly admit that I nearly gave up on The Guy on the Right. It was NA College at its finest...which unfortunately, left me tut-tutting and shaking my head in all of my old lady glory. These characters got up to crazy shenanigans and acted recklessly as normal college-aged students do. The older I get, the further I am away from the memories of those good old days and that craziness has lost its appeal. But as the story progressed and I got to know the characters better, I came to love what was below the surface.

Theo and Laney have ghost pains and love wounds to compare when they meet for the first time. Neither of them is looking for the love of their lives and are very hesitant to trust the opposite sex. The best part of their relationship is that it started out as friendship. They were able to be open with each other and establish a natural conversation without the pressures of lusty lustiness. Theo was attracted to Laney from the beginning but didn't want it to be one-sided as she had put him in the friend-zone. With time their connection grew stronger and neither of them could deny the zing between them.

Kate Stewart has treated us to a very funny, sweet, sexy and heartwarming story. The characters came to life for me and I loved getting to know them better and seeing their growth from beginning to end. Like I mentioned above, at first, I thought it was going to be all about the shenanigans but as the story progressed, I loved seeing the deeper side to the characters. When Theo and Laney eventually take their relationship to the next level...IT WAS HOT!!!!!

I laughed, sniffled, sighed and squirmed reading The Guy on the Right and by the end I was questioning if there was even a guy on the left or any other guy for that matter. Theo was a fantastic hero but he wasn't perfect. He does an absolutely knumbskully thing towards the end and I was absolutely SHOCKED! He should have trusted his heart and he nearly paid the penalty for his silly insecurities. But, that just made him human and he definitely made up for it BIG TIME. Laney was funny and I loved it when she finally acknowledged Theo's attractiveness. It was almost like if she admitted it, she'd have to give him up. They were perfect together.

If you're a fan of Kate Stewart you will absolutely LOVE The Guy on the Right. If you're a fan of NA College, I highly recommend giving this one a go. I'm not normally a fan of this genre, but I had to make an exception for Ms Stewart. I knew she'd get it right, well, I knew after the first 30% (sorry for doubting your abilities Ms Stewart) that she'd have me loving these characters by the end. Theo is the kind of hero every girl should dream of and Laney is the heroine we all wish we could be a little like.

I highly recommend reading The Guy on the Right and I can't wait for more from this author.
