One Wright Stand sets the stage for the novel Wright With Benefits. Annie Donahue and Jordan Wright. The story gave an interesting peak into Annie and Jordan’s first meeting and their eventual hook up.
Annie’s goal in life is to become a medical doctor so she can save lives. As a medical student she studied hard, but she never shies away from partying and having fun. It was at one of these partying moments that she first laid eyes on Jordan Wright. They had no intention of being involved in a relationship, Annie because of her studies and Jordan given his many failed relationships. However, they could not deny their attraction to each other. What better way to deal with their attraction without the commitments a relationship entails, but to have one night of passion. One night with no strings, with the understanding they will go their separate ways after. Should be easy, especially with Jordan returning to Canada the following day. Fate, however, had other plans
I enjoyed this prequel. It may have been short, but it sure packed a punch. The story which feature intriguing characters entertained me from start to finish, whetting my appetite for the sequel. Readers familiar with the series would be happy to know that the events of this prequel occurred before Sutton’s story. I thought this to be a wonderful introduction to Annie and Jordan’s story. A must read for fans of the series and readers of contemporary romance.
Wright with Benefits picks up three years after the events One Wright Stand. Annie is in her final year of medical school with her focus being on her choice of residency. Meanwhile, Jordan has been living in Luddock for the past three years, much to Annie’s astonishment. One would think that after their night of the best sex of their lives, they would pick up from where they left off. Alas, this was not the case.
Annie avoided Jordan, and whenever they came into proximity to each other, one could feel the tension flowing from them. However, fate led to their paths crossing on a day when nothing seemed to go right for Annie, which placed her in a position to accept help from Jordan. At that moment it became clear they still had feelings for each other. After much back and forth they declared a truce and embarked on a friends with benefit relationship. Curious to know how well that worked out, then you need to pick up a copy of Wright with Benefits.
Annie is strong willed and sassy with her main flaw being her indecisive nature, especially deciding the step to take regarding her relationship with Jordan.
Jordan spends most of his time working and avoids committed relationships. He fails at every relationship he has ever been in and he fears destroying what he had with Annie. His failure in relationships lay in his refusal to communicate, which revealed itself in his interactions with Annie. Annie may have been the queen of mix signals, but with his failure to communicate, Jordan topped the charts.
Annie and Jordan worked well together as a couple, and they brought out the best in each other. I had fun watching them grow closer to each other. However, their journey to happily ever after did not run smooth. They navigated rough terrains in the form of jealousy, miscommunication, pain from the past and the myriad of other challenges they faced. Linde lived up to the moniker, the queen of angst, as evidenced in this story.
I had a wonderful time coming back to the world of the Wrights and reconnecting with the characters from the previous books. It was also fun getting acquainted with new characters whom I believe will get their own story soon.
Wright With Benefits was another wonderful addition to the series which fans of the genre will enjoy.
