Oh Geez…I nearly blubbered on the train

OK…so my Sassy life has had a few changes. The first one being that I got myself a wee little job. It’s only casual, pretty laid back and just what this chicky needed seeing as she has been out of the workforce for 13 YEARS. Anyways…the number one perk – I have half an hour each way travel time on the train. YAY!!! This gives me more time to listen to my audio. Rock Chick Revolution will now hold a fond memory as my first audio when I returned to work. It certainly helped with my first day at work nerves considering I was consumed with worry that Ren didn’t know why Ally wasn’t willing to take their relationship to the next level. I now needed to learn how to keep a poker face when the – Ooh Ahh, “Ren”…’s or the Faster Baby…’s came and went. I had to keep my grin off my face for all the - Geez Ally, you’re a pain in my ass…’s and the Smithy chats or the Tex booms. The hardest one by far was today…I had to hide my face and get my sunnies out as I nearly burst into tears when Darius’s world seemed to fall apart. I can honestly tell you work sure doesn’t seem so bad when the coming and going means I get to spend time in KA world.

The first time I read Rock Chick Revolution I was a little disappointed. Ally, just didn’t live up to my expectations. I mean, seriously, she was an original Rock Chick and I thought her story would be all about her meeting the man of her dreams and he’d rock her world and carry her off into the sunset… In typical Ally style, she doesn’t want to be like the other Rock Chicks, she wants to be a badass and have her hero let her be the woman she was meant to be. So, knowing that, in my listen, I decided to give Ally the benefit of the doubt and hear her instead of judging her. We aren’t all alike. There isn’t one mould that every heroine should fit into. A woman has every right to be tough, strong and career driven. The one thing I buried my head in the sand about and refused to acknowledge the first time I read was that she wasn’t stupid. She knew her boundaries and limitations. If she didn’t think her badass capabilities were up to scratch, she called for back up and waited. She didn’t rush in guns blazing and hoping for the best. Maybe, there was a place for a Rock Chick in the Hot Bunch world. Yes, it took a little convincing to get Lee to let her in, but none of them could deny that she played a pivotal role by being a woman who could hold her own AND think…AT THE SAME TIME.

By the end of my listening, I was converted. I’m not sure how or why the audio makes thing different, but it does. Three of the Rock Chick books that I thought were alright as reads became really great listening to them. Maybe because it takes time to listen to an audio and you can’t help but be consumed while listening. It could have a wee bit to do with the sensational job that Susannah Jones does. She is by far my favourite female narrator. I don’t care that she might not get the accents perfect, her voice and inflection were perfect to me.

Ally may not have been my favourite Rock Chick but Ren was an awesome hero for her. Man, this guy, he makes your heart flutter with his sweet words one minute, then he has your temperature sky rocketing with his sexy moves. One of my favourite parts though is when someone gets in the face of his woman. Geez, I don’t like violence normally, but I would pay MONEY to see someone “deal” with a man like Ren does. That scene…on their first date…OH MY LORDY!! I was on the train…and squirming…and blushing…and the sexy times afterwards…OH MY LORDY!!

Anyways…I ended up loving the audio of Rock Chick Revolution and I’m so disappointed that I haven’t got any left to explore. Maybe I should go back to the beginning again…
