A Deadly Inside Scoop by Abby Collette

A Deadly Inside Scoop (An Ice Cream Parlor Mystery, #1)

by Abby Collette

This book kicks off a charming cozy mystery series set in an ice cream shop—with a fabulous cast of quirky characters.

Recent MBA grad Bronwyn Crewse has just taken over her family's ice cream shop in Chagrin Falls, Ohio, and she's going back to basics. Win is renovating Crewse Creamery to restore its former glory, and filling the menu with delicious, homemade ice cream flavors—many from her grandmother’s original recipes. But unexpected construction delays mean she misses the summer season, and the shop has a literal cold opening: the day she opens her doors an early first snow descends on the village and keeps the customers away.

To make matters worse, that evening, Win finds a body in the snow, and it turns out the dead man was a grifter with an old feud with the Crewse family. Soon, Win’s father is implicated in his death. It's not easy to juggle a new-to-her business while solving a crime, but Win is determined to do it. With the help of her quirky best friends and her tight-knit family, she'll catch the ice cold killer before she has a meltdown...

Today I'm serving up a sweet treat: A Deadly Inside Scoop by Abby Collette.  Bronwyn is back to re-open her family's ice cream shop in Ohio near Halloween and if that wasn't enough, she stumbles over a dead body down the way from her shop. This reluctant sleuth's got fun friends, a large supportive family, and a new admirer.

About A Deadly Inside Scoop:

IMHO: A Deadly Inside Scoop

I haven't had so much fun reading a book in so long!  A Deadly Inside Scoop has some genuinely sweet and laugh out loud moments. It's down to earth and not a zany adventure.

I enjoyed Bronwyn's reluctance to start investigating. She's not naturally inclined or experienced with it.  The police suspecting her father makes sense and a clear motive for her to snoop about. Her family warns against it but she does have a friend like us readers, which is a fun dynamic.

Bronwyn's got friends and families and fellow business owners and customers that pop of the page. It's a healthy mix and blend of people that are memorable but don't steal the show or blend together.

Love how being one of the few black families in the area and the newb murder investigator are addressed headon in the text early and that's it. Handled perfectly.

There's an admirer but no real romance. Bronwyn's got too many things to do and isn't looking for a date right now. I'm relieved at the moment but I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.

The mystery is excellent. Bronwyn makes a great amatuer slueth out of the gate. She's not oblivious or tries too hard. I didn't guess the murderer early. There aren't any problems or annoyances that pull you out of the story. I was just cruising and wondering along until they were revealed.

Wait, did I mention there's a gorgeous white Persian cat that helped pick out wallpaper?

Perfect cozy mystery with the perfect balance of characters, mystery, and fun.
