One Perfect Lie

by Lisa Scottoline

"One Perfect Lie is an emotional thriller and a suburban crime story that will keep you guessing until you turn the very last page. On the surface, it tells the tale of the struggling single mother of a high-school pitcher, a shy kid so athletically talented that he's being recruited for a full-ride scholarship to a Division I college, with a future in major-league baseball. But the mother fears that she's losing her grip on her son because he's being lured down a darker path by one of his teammates, a secretly disturbed young man from an affluent family, whose excellent grades and fun-loving manner conceal his violent criminal plans. Add a handsome stranger who comes to town and infiltrates the high school, posing as a teacher but with a hidden agenda all his own. The mix becomes combustible when a beloved faculty member turns up dead as a suicide, in circumstances equally consistent with murder. Only then is the true identity of the fake teacher revealed, and the single mother finds herself engaged in a battle for the future, the soul, and the very life of her only son. One Perfect Lie is a riveting and suspenseful family drama, and by the time you close the book, you will realize that nothing was as it seemed at the beginning"--

Review:

I have one word to describe this book , WOW! Let's just say that going into this book I thought that the plot was going in on direction but then it totally took a left turn! I really thought that I had this story all figured out but wham, what a curve ball the author threw at me and that is what makes for a great book. The plot is unbelievable when we find out the true plot, sorry that I cannot go into detail at all about this book, if I do it will give the whole thing away. There were a few very small sub plots in this book that I really liked involving the families in this book. The sub plot that was the most interesting was Evan's family , Evan is one of Chris's students. Evan's mom Mindy is having a very difficult time dealing with her surgeon husband who may be keeping a secret from her. We meet Heather, Jordan's mom who has her own struggles with being a single mom and her crappy job and trying to make ends meet. Chris enters their lives and there is a bit of a spark between them and the fact that there was a tiny bit of romance in this book was amazing given the overall plot. I thought the romance in the story was a nice touch, it did not distract at all and made the main character more human. This is one suspense filled story with a big twist.

Verdict:

An unbelievable fast paced thriller with many surprises!
