Black Dog by Levi Pinfold

Black Dog

by Levi Pinfold

A black dog appears outside the Hope family's home. As each member of the household sees it and hides, the dog grows bigger and bigger. Only Small, the youngest Hope, has the courage to face the Black Dog. When it chases her through the forest she shows no fear, so it grows smaller and smaller. Finally, back to the size of a normal hound, the Black Dog is welcomed into the Hope household as their newest addition.

The book jacket is absolutely necessary and mesmerizing. At first I couldn’t find the copyright info, but then discovered it on the cover behind the jacket flap. The jacket cover is sparkly and reflective, yet the book cover itself is interesting and amusing, but it is the art that leaves me awestruck. Looking at a picture online of the cover I never would have expected the cover in person nor the illustrations within. The mixture of small sepia picture-stories with the full page color illustrations is creative and leaves an even more interesting flair. The utilities give a dated era and even more interest to a history buff like myself.

This is amazing and I will absolutely be looking for more books/art by Levi Pinfold.
