“In any serious relationship, if you don't gather your partner's opinion before making a decision that impacts you both, you're just storing up trouble for the future.”

This was a short, but sweet story.
Mattie is an Amish baker who has moved to a different town due to having had her heart broken by Gideon.
When disaster strikes at her bakery and she loses everything, her mom asks her to come home for a while. While she is home she sees old friends and starts to get back up on her feet, she also has to deal with Gideon and be around him almost all the time as the whole community tries to get them back together.
Throughout this whole book I couldn't help, but think that maybe Gideon was protecting her too much and more so himself because he wouldn't be able to handle knowing that if anything would happen to him that it would destroy her. That wasn't his choice to make though and he finally did realize that with a little help.
This story truly does show you that if you keep secrets from those you love you'll hurt everyone around you, not just you.
While I am glad there was a happy ending, I can't help, but feel a little bad for Saul as well. I know he didn't truly care for Mattie, breaking up on Chistmas eve can't be easy.
