This book has made me feel all sorts of emotions and I will probably say something that is a bit controversial now. What happened to these girls should NEVER EVER happen but, yes there is a but, when I found out “the” story I lost my sympathy for them. I am struggling to explain the ins and outs without giving the story away and I am not expanding on the blurb. However, I was angry and sympathetic and just plain sad with it all. It is a one-person view that how it should be resolved because in their eyes would there be any other justice? It made me angry because none of this had to happen, sticks and stones, sticks and stones.
The book starts with Shearer heading a team up on a drugs bust when things go a bit sideways and Robyn is back on the team. Shearer, ah man what can I say about him, he has melted my heart! He is someone I have a lot of time for, I know he is a bit of an ass, but the softer side of him came out and the way you see the small snippets of him caring for Robyn was just cute.
This case is tough, the tension is ramped, amplified because the headers of some of the chapters are counting the days. We start on Day 1 and it is petrifying because we do not know how many days we have, how many days do the missing girls have? I was on edge and I flew through this book, listening in the day time and reading in the evening, I had to know this case, I had to help solve it. I only got to the conclusion just before Robyn, but even then there were a couple of curveballs. I did also find myself shouting at Robyn a few times, she is very focused on the case she is on and I love her for it, it just left her blinkered at times. Although I only think that because we had the bigger picture, we could see what was going to happen, Robyn however can’t. So I was shouting to try and help, although I know I could not influence it.
What made this story more ghastly, is how the person behind everything was just so calm, switched off from emotions and just saw their cause. Ok, things did not play out how it was originally intended but the cold and calculating way they behave is enough to give you nightmares!
I am now going to have to crack on with the next book straight away, I need to know how Robyn is, I need to know how things are going to play out, I need to get answers and I want them now!! I love Robyn, she has been making so many strides and I fear that this is now going to set her back a few steps. The colour I said that I saw in Robyn, she was almost there, going for drinks, making friends, and now I fear the grey is coming back as there is no way she could escape these new feelings.
Carol has written a story which is so relevant and a subject I hate reading about because it is just tragic. Just, just there is no need and it just breaks my heart.
From the get-go, I was sucked in, I was playing detective, I was trying to figure out what the heck was going on. The Missing Girls is such an absorbing story, it will break your heart, it is most definitely going to shock you and it is going to chill you.
I still feel on edge, gaaahhhh just such an epic book on every proportion. I will take a while to shake this one-off. I loved The Missing Girls and it’s going on my list at the end of the year, it has everything you need, you think you want and what you actually want in a rollercoaster of a thriller.
Carol, seriously what are you doing to me?!!!! This has blown me away.
Just read this series!
