The best laid plans. . .

"Bridget determined not to make a mistake in the choice of her future spouse, and therefore she has compiled a list of exactly what she is looking for. And Ryan knows that he doesn’t want to have his family struggle financially as his own parents did, so he is determined to not marry until he is financially secure.

You know, “best-laid plans”, right?

I really appreciated the fact that the author didn’t make Ryan a playboy just because he wasn’t ready to settle down. His sense of humor and playfulness made him a fun hero. His deep love for his family and desire to help his parents made him even more appealing.

Bridget’s attempts at flirting with the local doctor were cute. The fact that she was not an experienced flirt made her more likable and relatable. It was fun to see her obsession with food and presentation and the things that she did to make the meals at the ranch memorable.

One scene I particularly enjoyed was when Bridget was giving Ryan a tour of the ranch and brought him to the golf cart. His reaction and the ensuing teasing was cute.

Bridget was a little bit judgmental. She assumed things about Ryan based on what she saw and knew, and he didn’t come out very favorably. She was also a bit obsessed with her biological clock ticking away – with more mentions than seemed necessary for me to understand her concern.

The story did drag in a few places and a couple of descriptions of things made me want to skip over them. One instance listed items on the menu. Later, this got better with the way meals were described.

Though this is part of a series, I didn’t feel lost not having read other books by this author.

If you are looking for a light-hearted cowboy romance, this could be a good book to consider.
