A friend recommended this book for my personal development collection. I downloaded it from Kindle Unlimited and read it. I am trying to think of something nice to say. She had good advice. I liked her interviews of successful people. She had good actionable advice.

The bad part.. and you knew this was coming so I am just going to spit it out. The writing sucked. I feel it could have been salvaged with a good editor. We all know that traditionally published books have the crap edited out of them. literally. I mean I bet Stephen King don't really write that well on a first draft. Nobody does. That is why you hire editors to cut the crap and smooth and tighten your writing. This book read exactly like a first draft. Like she whipped it up in a month or so and posted it on Amazon. I am not knocking self-published books. I have read some excellent self-published books. I AM saying no matter how you publish you still need an editor.  Don't just type it up in a caffeine induced frenzy then be all like holy shit I wrote a book then post it on Amazon. I am not saying that is what she did I am saying that what this book reads like.

If you can get past the bad writing which I tried my best to do. I kept telling myself focus on the content Hillary; she does some good action advice. Such as:

  • take care of yourself

  • eat right

  • have a group of people who support you

  • have a mentor who can guide you

among others.

I feel that if an editor were brought in and went over the book then, it would be an excellent book. As it is ugh. This review was originally posted on Adventures in Never Never Land
