Maybe I’m not the best judge…
Confession time AGAIN!! I signed up for the ARC of Aced before I even found out what it was about. Yep, I saw that cover and went…ooh baby…come to Mama (OMG, I’m so embarrassed that I just admitted that). Now, the problem with this whirlwind cover love is that I’m not really an M/M reader. I have a lot of friends who love them and when I do read them I enjoy the experience but I can’t connect. In most of my normal reads to some extent, I’m picturing myself in the story which I obviously can’t do in M/M. So, then I have to put on my peeping tom hat, pull out my magnifying glass for closer inspections and observe the scene like I’m at a Justin Bieber concert. I find myself smirking at times because I’m hanging with the cool kids completely out of my comfort zone. My eyes are wide open and shocked that people get off on this while tapping my foot every once in a while because I can’t help but be pulled into the buzz. BUT…In the end, though, if someone asked me straight out if I liked the concert I’d probably deny I'd even been there. I’m sorry M/M authors, M/M fans and Justin Bieber fans, I’m probably going to stay in the closet a wee bit longer.
Well, now that I’ve got that off my chest I can tell you that I enjoyed Aced. I really enjoyed seeing Ace and Dylan connect and had a few chuckles watching them realise they were each the other's biggest fans. Dylan had been watching Ace’s movies for years and Ace had been going out of his ways to admire the pin up picture of Dylan in his C K undies. Their first meeting was probably not the best, but it doesn’t take them long to realise there is really strong chemistry between them. It does make things a little awkward that they’re actually working together on Ace’s latest movie. They have to try and be as professional as possible and not make googly eyes at each other.
The relationship between Ace and Dylan is very sweet. Dylan is confident in his sexuality and has loving parents who don’t make him feel bad because of it. To be honest, I think Dylan’s parent Sunshine and Ziggy nearly stole the show. They were both an absolute CRACK UP!! Now, poor Ace is very much the opposite of confident in his sexuality. He has only “come out” in the last 12 months and hasn’t really settled into his new skin. Dylan is very understanding and doesn’t mind being Ace’s dirty little secret. Ace hates the secrecy but knows the hullabaloo it will cause when the press finds out. They decide it would be best for both of them to keep things on the down low.
Aced was a fast paced look into the lives of the rich and famous. Ace is coming to realise that the perks he gets with the job are something he just takes for granted. Being with Dylan has reminded him to stop and enjoy them again. The sexy times between this couple are steamy and intense. There’s definitely a wee bit of kinky going on but it’s not OTT or icky.
Aced finishes off with a bang and it looks like Ace has to make a major decision really quickly. Can they survive together or will they be better off apart? Tune in for another adventure in PresLocke…The Daydreamer and the Action Hero.
