Enzo is the head on the Martinelli family whose business is based on drugs. His life has been brutal and conducts his business that way. He has never known softness. Everyone around him wants something from him. When Enzo stumbles upon Chase he sees someone he can help.

Chase Connors was a sex slave and has little self-worth when Enzo rescues him. Upon Enzo’s insistence, he goes into therapy and goes back to school. Enzo is able to give Chase a sense of self-worth and shows Enzo and himself how strong he is to overcome his past.

The chemistry between Chase and Enzo is scorching. Chase is totally in love with Enzo but for a long time thinks that Enzo is straight so he does not realize that he has a chance. The sex scenes are blistering. Enzo does not give Chase enough credit in knowing his own mind.

Out of the Darkness is the second book in the Taken series by J. C. Ownes. While this book is part of a series, it can be read and enjoyed as a standalone novel. I found this book very well written with interesting and realistic main and secondary characters. I read this book in one sitting. I loved it. Overall, this was a great book. I will be reading more by this author in the future.
