As is always the case with a Sarina Bowen book, I really enjoyed THE ACCIDENTALS. I mean, once I started, I couldn't stop reading, because I was so engrossed and invested in Rachel's story.

My heart went out to Rachel, who not only had to deal with the death of her mother, but also with foster care, a changing long-standing friendship, and a new relationship with the father she had never met. She went through a lot of ups and downs, but she grew tremendously over the course of this book, and I thought it was fantastic, that Frederick, her father, grew right along side her.

Watching their relationship blossom and evolve was probably one of my favorite parts. There were a few times that Frederick really disappointed me, but it was just part of the process, and in the end, it seemed like they were definitely moving in the right direction.

Other things I really adored:

• Jake's correspondence was all sorts of fun and adorable, and I was glad those two exchanged more than the requisite number of letter.

• Jake himself. I loved him and each and every one of his nerdy t-shirts.

• All the talk of astronomy and music was really interesting, and as a science nerd, I really loved hearing Jake wax poetic about the night sky (there was even a high level talk about perturbations, which got me all excited).

• Grandma came out of the gate gunning for my heart. I mean, I love a women, who comes prepared to bake cookies. Grandpa was also pretty fantastic, and I thought Rachel was so lucky to have them welcome her with open arms.

• Bowen's love for New Hampshire is something I always appreciate, and I was happy to be revisiting the state.

• I always enjoy a good boarding school setting, and I even got to attend some classes and events here.

• I was fully on board for this romance, even through the ups and downs.

It was exciting to read a Bowen YA book, and I really hope she will write more for this age group. She delivered a fantastic story of family and friendship, which sucked me in from the very beginning and never let go.
