When Sierra discovers her young ancestor's handcrafted quilt and reads her journal, she finds their lives are very similar. By following her ancestor's example, she learns to surrender to God's sovereignty and unconditional love.
I enjoy [a:Francine River|6492|Francine Rivers|http://photo.goodreads.com/authors/1225995933p2/6492.jpg]'s later work ([b:A Voice in the Wind|95617|A Voice in the Wind (Mark of the Lion #1)|Francine Rivers|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171304291s/95617.jpg|883913] and [b:An Echo in the Darkness|95602|Mark of the Lion Complete Set (#1-3)|Francine Rivers|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1171304264s/95602.jpg|920037]) so I thought this would be an interesting sample of her early books. Unfortunately, it was not very good.
With one exception the characters are not endearing or even appealing so there's no one really to root for. The fractured story lines (an ancestral pioneer story and modern day drama) never come together or have any relevance for one another. The moral of the story is horribly and discouragingly off center. I was sadly disappointed.
