Help, Thanks, Wow (Help, Thanks, Wow)

by Anne Lamott

New York Times bestseller from the author of Hallelujah Anyway, Bird by Bird, and Almost Everything.

Author Anne Lamott writes about the three simple prayers essential to coming through tough times, difficult days and the hardships of daily life.

Readers of all ages have followed and cherished Anne Lamott’s funny and perceptive writing about her own faith through decades of trial and error. And in her new book, Help, Thanks, Wow, she has coalesced everything she knows about prayer to these fundamentals.

It is these three prayers – asking for assistance from a higher power, appreciating what we have that is good, and feeling awe at the world around us – that can get us through the day and can show us the way forward. In Help, Thanks, Wow, Lamott recounts how she came to these insights, explains what they mean to her and how they have helped, and explores how others have embraced these same ideas.

Insightful and honest as only Anne Lamott can be, Help, Thanks, Wow is the everyday faith book that new Lamott readers will love and longtime Lamott fans will treasure.

This book by Anne Lamott is an explanation for three of the most important prayers that you can utter according to Lamott. These three words encompass all the feelings that you can have. It is hard to believe. At first I didn’t believe it. I thought there was no way that those three little words could cover all the major feelings that a person could have. After I was finished reading the book I saw these three words in a different light however.

I love reading about Anne Lamott faith. It is like my own faith in that it followed a somewhat rocky path and it hard won. Her writing is so real and raw. I love other Christian writers too but Anne Lamott hold a special place in my heart in that I feel that she also wrestled with demons and came out the victor. I don’t mean to to belittle others but reading syrupy sweet accounts of love and all of that has it place but it is refreshing to see and read someone who has been in the dark valley with us.

This is a short book, it is about 100 pages but it is packed with examples of what she she and we have to be thankful for, what we need help with and so on. My favorite thing that I took from this book is the God Box. When you are mad about someone and don’t know what to do about them, just write their name on a piece of paper and put it in your God Box and let the Lord take care of it. I thought that was one of the best ideas ever. I cant believe I haven’t read or heard about that before.

Needless to say I loved this book. If you like you Christian books raw and gritty then you should definitely pick up this book!
