Dash & Lily's Book of Dares by Rachel Cohn, David Levithan

Dash & Lily's Book of Dares (Dash & Lily, #1)

by Rachel Cohn and David Levithan

A whirlwind romance from the New York Times bestselling authors of Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist!

“I’ve left some clues for you.
If you want them, turn the page.
If you don’t, put the book back on the shelf, please.”

16-year-old Lily has left a red notebook full of challenges on her favorite bookstore shelf, waiting for just the right guy to come along and accept its dares. Dash, in a bad mood during the holidays, happens to be the first guy to pick up the notebook and rise to its challenges.

What follows is a whirlwind romance as Dash and Lily trade dares, dreams, and desires in the notebook they pass back and forth at locations all across New York City. But can their in-person selves possibly connect as well as their notebook versions, or will their scavenger hunt end in a comic mismatch of disastrous proportions?

Co-written by Rachel Cohn (GINGERBREAD) and David Levithan, co-author of WILL GRAYSON, WILL GRAYSON with John Green (THE FAULT IN OUR STARS), DASH & LILY'S BOOK OF DARES is a love story that will have readers scouring bookstore shelves, looking and longing for a love (and a red notebook) of their own.

I love the premise of this book first of all! I only recently visited Strand for the first time a couple of weeks ago so it was a lot of fun reading about it. I love the idea of Dash and Lily trading this red moleskin notebook and going on adventures throughout New York City. I live near Mrs. Basil E’s brownstone so it was really exciting to read about their adventures happening so close to me. My favorite NYC spot that Dash and Lily visited, other than the Strand, was Max Brenner. For teens living outside New York City, I would recommend taking a trip here and going through their adventures. Sounds like a blast!

Dash vs. Lily? It’s tough to say which character I enjoyed reading more about. I don’t think I have a preference because they are both just written so well. I think on some level, I can definitely relate to both characters.

Favorite dare? I love the first dare in the Strand. I thought that was absolutely clever and it made me just want to keep on reading.

DASH AND LILY’S BOOK OF DARES is a great read to prepare yourself for the upcoming holiday season! Lily’s love for the holidays is infectious and before you know it, you’ll be baking spritz cookies and building snowmen! I laughed many times throughout the book; David Levithan definitely sprinkled in some slap-stick comedy as promised. I cannot wait to see this up on the big screen – I hope it pulls through.

I think that fans of Levithan and Cohn will definitely enjoy this book. Lovers of romantic comedy and/or the holidays will also find this a fun book to read.
