We’re three issues in on the newest round of Doctor Strange comics, and yet we’re still seeing the effects of the Death of Magic plot. That’s both crazy and incredibly impressive, if you ask me. In a desperate attempt to find a way back to magic Doctor Strange left earth – hoping to find a new source or new instructors, anything really.
Which brings us to this issue of Doctor Strange. He’s adjusting pretty well to the whole space exploration thing. Actually, he’s sort of become a space/magical Indiana Jones, in his own way. Not sure where this plot will lead in the long run, other than that it’s clearly building up to the Infinity War plot we’ve been hearing so much about.
So obviously anybody that’s been reading the comics lately will know about the Infinity War buildup. So many series have gotten one shot stories under the “Countdown to Infinity” line (Champions, Darkhawk, Captain Marvel, etc etc), and the Guardians of the Galaxy even had hints in their main plotline. Still, it’s interesting to see how it all ties together. It doesn’t take much to guess which character/plot is wrapped up in which stone, if you sit down and think about it. This is especially true for Doctor Strange – there’s only one stone he’s famously been in contact with.
The real question is, what happens next? How will Strange’s plot tie in with the major event? It’s unlikely it’ll go the same way as the movie, for obvious reasons. That still leaves them with a lot of options.
