Reawakened (Once Upon a Time, #1)

by Odette Beane

In Storybrooke, Maine, Emma Swan and Mary Margaret Blanchard are friends and roommates. They're united in their mission to make life better for Henry, Emma's young son, who has been raised by Storybrooke's vicious mayor, Regina Mills. However, things are not as they seem, for all those in Storybrooke are fairy-tale characters exiled from their enchanted land by an evil curse.

As much as I loooooooove the show, this gets only 4 out of 5 stars because a lot of the backstories of the other characters have been left out so the author could focus on the Emma/Henry/Regina/Snow thread of the series. It's the twists and turns of each character's own tale and how they all intertwine with the main thread mentioned above that is the actual appeal to the show. Also, I have a slight pet peeve with one of the chapters - 'What Happened to Frederick'. NOWHERE in that particular chapter is there any mention of Princess Abigail's love, Frederick. I know the author thought it'd be good to use actual episode titles for the chapters, but come on! If the chapter title mentions a character's name, then at least mention the character! Those new to the series would be utterly confused as to who this Frederick guy is since he is NOT EVEN mentioned ANYWHERE in that chapter or book! Hopefully, they'll do a better job with a season two adaptation. With that aside, it's still an enjoyable read even if you aren't familiar with the show.
