It took two attempts but I got there in the end.

The first time I started Soaring, I was reading and it didn't go well. I put it on hold and planned to get back into it soon...ish. Well, it took a wee while longer than it should have but that day eventually came (prompted by the announcement that The Time in Between was coming out soon). I decided I needed to approach it differently. So, I bought the audio to listen to it instead. Determined that I wasn't going to give up until it was finished, I settled in for the journey. Turns out (for me anyway), that this adventure was better to listen to than reading.

The narrator's voice was good most of the time but, at times it had this huskiness to it that made her sound like she worked on an 1800-sex-alot chat line. Each to their own, but it was a little OTT to me. It was easy to tell when the characters were changing, her pacing was good and it was very easy to follow along.

From what I remember of the first half of the story, I didn't really like it. With plenty of time in between, I had luckily forgotten most of the bad stuff. It didn't take long for me to catch up again with who was who and what was what and it was all good from the halfway point onwards.

This story is all about finding love after a divorce when there are children involved and bad relationships to move on from. Both the main characters learn from their mistakes and work towards making a perfect relationship with each other and their own version of the Brady Bunch.

The next in the Magdalene series is coming out soon, so I'm glad I got up to date.
