Slaying It by Chloe Neill

Slaying It (Chicagoland Vampires, #13.5)

by Chloe Neill

A brand new novella in the New York Times bestselling series featuring vampires in the Windy City.

Merit, Sentinel of Chicago's Cadogan House, is pregnant. She's ready to meet her daughter, but also very excited about the possibility of seeing her feet again. But trouble always seems to find her...

Ethan and Merit have been married for eight months, and they're preparing for life-with-baby. Ethan's battling his overprotectiveness, while Merit's hoping she can figure out how to be a loving parent given her family's chilliness.

While out on an evening walk, Merit stops to help a human in need, only to find herself under attack. A sociopath with a debt figures pregnant Merit is an easy target--and Cadogan House would pay handsomely for her return...

A fun little post-series catch up for Chicagoland Series fans.  Merit's ready to pop out the first vampire baby in recorded history when a rogue vampire attempts to kidnap her and hold her for ransom.  This is merely the prop, however, for the resolution of Jonas' HEA.  I never disliked Jonas, but never felt as though his story was a dangling thread, so mostly I enjoyed this story for the snarky dialogue that Neil is so very good at.   And yes, I realise this will probably have been perfect for a Halloween square of some sort; I just really wanted to check something out with my new library card before they changed their mind and took it back.
