Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr, Alyssa Bresnahan

Wicked Lovely (Wicked Lovely, #1)

by Melissa Marr and Alyssa Bresnahan

The clash of ancient rules and modern expectations swirl together in this cool, urban 21st century faery tale. Rule #3: Don't stare at invisible faeries. Aislinn has always seen faeries. Powerful and dangerous, they walk hidden in the mortal world, and would blind her if they knew of her Sight. Rule #2: Don't speak to invisible faeries. Now faeries are stalking her. One of them, Keenan, who is equal parts terrifying and alluring, is trying to talk to her, asking questions Aislinn is afraid to answer. Rule #1: Don't ever attract their attention. But it's too late. Keenan is the Summer King and has sought his queen for nine centuries. Without her, summer itself will perish. He is determined that Aislinn will become the Summer Queen at any cost! Suddenly none of the rules that have kept Aislinn safe are working any more, and everything is on the line: her freedom; her best friend, Seth; her life; everything.

I recently had the pleasure of reading Wicked Lovely by Melissa Marr. My first thought is quite simply, wow. Not since reading the first three books of the Meredith Gentry series have I read a book that involved the fey that kept me so captivated. It must have considering I read over half the book just today in order to finish it! Not even the Gentry series kept me that enthralled!

Unlike the Gentry series, the fey in Melissa Marr's novels are invisible to all but a select few. These humans have the "Faerie Sight" and believe me, they don't want it. The fey are a mischievous bunch, causing problems for humans even though the humans can't see them.

But Aislinn can see them, although one of the rules her Grams has taught her is not to speak to them, not to stare at them, and not to attract their attention. But when she attracts the attention of Keenan, the Summer King of the fey, there isn't a whole lot that Aislinn can do about it. She must find out what he wants, and then must choose between being a Summer Girl or taking the risk of becoming the Winter Girl instead of the Summer Queen.

Aislinn has a mortal that she loves - Seth - and she doesn't want to give him up. So what will she do? Will she accept Keenan's advances? Will she take the risk of becoming the Winter Girl instead of the Summer Queen? Or will she become a Summer Girl, allowed to have her pick of the male fey and even mortal men if she chooses? You'll have to read the book to find out.

This one is a definite five out of five stars.
