Ruthless...or just a douchewaffle?

I normally love stepping into the world of the rich and famous. I usually like meeting the heroes with more money than I have ever known and seeing how they got to be The Ruthless Gentleman. In this case, I think our hero was just a little too unemotional, self-serving and a touch robotic.

I was never truly convinced that he wasn't just making an acquisition when he lured Avery into his world. All his previous "relationships" were to help him balance out his frustrations with work. How am I suppose to believe that Avery wasn't his latest distraction when he's having the biggest frustration of his working life?

Hayden threw money at her problems and hung around for five minutes to make sure she was onboard with his plans. He stuffed up MONUMENTALLY and she forgave him pretty easily. Saying all the pretty words didn't convince me he was a changed man.

I didn't hate The Ruthless Gentleman, I liked it, I just wasn't completely convinced in their HEA. It seemed a pretty one-sided sacrifice unless you count throwing money at problems a sacrifice? I guess I just needed a little more convincing that The Ruthless Gentleman wasn't just a douchewaffle.
