God of Darkness by Aimee Carter

God of Darkness (A Goddess Series short story, #8)

by Aimée Carter

'Feared by the living, revered by the dead'

As Lord of the Underworld, Hades had unimaginable power at his fingertips, ready to do whatever he must to uphold his duties and laws.

And as the ruler of the souls who died, he would live forever, guaranteed true immortality through his duties to them. But he would have traded it all if it meant he could be mortal.

Finally, God of Darkness is the novella from Henry's POV. It's in third person, which was kind of annoying, especially considering everyone else's were in first. I have to wonder why? I would have loved to actually get into that emo brain of his! Anyway. This starts approximately 500 years after Persephone died, when Hades decides that he no longer wants to live. In response to his request to fade, his siblings ask for a century to find him a partner. Thus beginning the string of murders before Kate arrives.

Henry isn't quite as gloomy and doomy as I assumed. God of Darkness does show that there is hope left in him. He may not have wanted to finish out his remaining two decades to find a Queen, but seeing Kate for the first time sparked something within him. Before that though, I did want to see more of the girls who were tested. Only four of them are mentioned, but the only one we get to meet is Ingrid and we already got her story in Goddess Interrupted. I would have liked Bethany's story since she was the most recent, and the one who prompted Henry to give up before Diana offered to have another child. I was just hoping for more out this one, but I liked it well enough.
