Pointe

Speak meets Black Swan in this stunningly dramatic debut novel

All that drama, plus pointe shoes? Yes, please: this is one book that’s bound to make a splash

Theo is better now.

She’s eating again, dating guys who are almost appropriate, and well on her way to becoming an elite ballet dancer. But when her oldest friend, Donovan, returns home after spending four long years with his kidnapper, Theo starts reliving memories about his abduction—and his abductor.

Donovan isn’t talking about what happened, and even though Theo knows she didn’t do anything wrong, telling the truth would put everything she’s been living for at risk. But keeping quiet might be worse.

What should have been a rather happy event ended up turning Theo's world upside down. The return of her childhood best friend triggered things from Theo's past that had her falling back in some bad habits and making some poor choices. Of all the things going on in Theo's life, I found myself focusing on those she chose to give her love to. It broke my heart that she was willing to give her whole self to them and also willing to settle for the bits they would give to her. The flashbacks were especially heartbreaking. It was an interesting series of events that allowed Theo to reclaim some of her power, and though everything isn't tied up in a pretty bow for me, I was left with a lot of hope for Theo and her future. Her "people" really rallied around her in her time of need and I knew she was in good hands.
