A FINANCIAL TIMES, NEW STATESMAN, DAILY TELEGRAPH, METRO AND ELLE BOOK OF THE YEAR
On 5 October 2017, the New York Times published an article by Jodi Kantor and Megan Twohey that helped change the world.
Hollywood was talking as never before. Kantor and Twohey outmanoeuvred Harvey Weinstein, his team of defenders and private investigators, convincing some of the most famous women in the world – and some unknown ones – to go on the record. Three years later, it helped lead to his conviction.
Vital reporting, and a testament to the importance of having supportive, thoughtful editors.
After "Catch and Kill," though, the use of third-person narration for Jodi and Megan's reporting came off a little jarring, and I'm curious about the decision to not deploy first-person perspectives about their work. It might have been too difficult, given the broad scope of this book, but it also feels like a missed opportunity to hear another layer of the story in the skin of the people living through it.
