The Risk by Elle Kennedy

The Risk (Briar U, #2)

by Elle Kennedy

A sexy standalone novel from New York Times and international bestselling author Elle Kennedy.

Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team. And that’s who Jake Connelly is.

Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.

I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend. For every fake date…he wants a real one.

Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him. That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.

The Risk was delicious! Reluctant romance is just so sweet - because the buildup makes everything so good. I loved Brenna and Jake - they just kind of clicked. Even if Brenna didn't want to click with him. At all.

I can't even begin to say how happy I was when I learned that The Risk was going to be Brenna's and Jake's story! Especially because they were going to 'enemy' schools when it came to ice hockey. With Jake being Harvard's star player, and Brenna coach Jensen of Briar's daughter, I just knew there would be some secrecy and slight drama. And it was so delicious!

Brenna had this dream of being a sports commentator, and had applied for an internship with a web TV channel. And she soon realized she might not have what was needed to get the job. Because the big boss was not a fan of journalists and commentators with a vagina. I loved that Kennedy brought something so realistic into the action of The Risk, because it's true that women often have to fight much more to get the kind of job they want and deserve. Of course, the fact that the boss wanted to chat with Jake Connelly worked to Brenna's advantage. At least for a little while.

What started out as a fake relationship turned more real very soon. And Brenna was fighting her feelings with all she had. Only, Jake had everything going for him to make her swoon. And he did it so well! The secondary characters carried their weight for both the plot and the story, and sometimes, they were great comic relief, too.

Even though they're all the way upstairs, we can hear Rupi and Hollis yelling at each other. I really wish they'd come downstairs and do it in front of us. It's such good entertainment.
