I really enjoyed Waiting for You.

I’m not sure the author enjoyed waiting for me…to read and review Waiting for You. See, I was a bit of a slack arse and only realised on the weekend that I hadn’t read this one yet. This book was really good. The cover caught and held my eye. The characters were interesting and lovable and there was enough emotional storyline to keep my attention from start to finish.

The story starts with Aubrey coming home to the little town she grew up in, Crystal Valley. Aubrey had big plans when she hightailed it out of there. She wanted to create a name for herself, be successful and have a high profile life. Now, 14 years later, she’s returned battered and bruised from the life she’s lead. That high profile life turned into living imprisoned with a cruel and violent man. When the opportunity arose to get out from under him she took it…and it nearly killed her.

She left that life behind only taking what she bought and earned herself. One of the first steps in moving on is to go back to her Grandfather and hope to mend the bridges from her leaving. Her Grandma had died 6 years previously and while she did come to the funeral, she didn’t stick around for long. She feels guilty leaving her Grandfather but as soon as she returns he puts her fears to rest and welcomes her with open arms. Aubrey settles back in easily but it’s not long before she comes face to face with the one man in Crystal Valley who has the potential to rock her world. Her first love…Adam Parker.

Adam sees Aubrey for the first time in 14 years and is shocked with the feelings she brings out in him. He never understood how such a sweet girl could use him like she did. Did she think about him at all? Why is she here now? Where’s her husband? When will she take the big stick out of her butt? She comes home acting all snooty, doesn't she realise we've all grown up and moved on?

Adam’s life has been very busy in the last 14 years. Adam served his country in the Navy, returned home to take care of his ailing father until he passed, and now is a part-time handyman, part-time law enforcement officer. Adam’s also living with the nightmares after his time in the Navy. He keeps to himself mostly, stays busy and limits himself to an occasional hook-up. Adam’s content with his life and not sure he is capable of love.

When Adam and Aubrey manage to clear up their misunderstandings on what happened after the night they spent together as teenagers, they realise that they are still really attracted to each other. By mutual agreement, they decide to scratch the other's itch. But…of course they tell each other it’s - “short-term”, “I don’t want to make a commitment”, “I just want the O – my goodnesses” and “just fun and games”.

Aubrey and Adam are eventually faced with the shocking – “Oh crap, I think I have feelings” stage. Now, that stage is my favourite and always gives me a little flutter feeling. They scratch their heads and question what they are feeling, start doubting themselves and stress whether the feelings are mutual. But the first time they mention the 'L' word, always makes me sigh, Ahhh.

So things are going well enough for Aubrey and Adam but heartbreak and devastation are just around the corner. Will they be able to weather the storm they’re facing, or will it be easier to turn away and keep their pain to themselves?

I really enjoyed Waiting for You and I can’t believe I waited so long to get to it. There are plenty of steamy scenes to show their connection, a bit of angst to see how they handle conflict and heartbreak and some funny times to highlight their lighter side. There are a couple of darker scenes where we see violence and abuse, but they were never OTT or made me feel uncomfortable.

I definitely want to read more from this author and I really hope that Melissa Kate writes a story for Emma and Oliver…they NEED their story told.
