I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy from the Great Escapes Book Tours. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.Lies, Spies, and the Baker's Surprise by Terry Ambrose show that Alex can't keep her nose out of the customer's business. Both Alex and Rick feel bad about the one guy getting killed.

Will Alex be able to find evidence that Tara is innocent? Will Rick be able to focus on his wedding without trying to solve a murder?

Rick and Alex Atwood

Rick Atwood is so happy to be marrying Marquetta and that Alex is getting an excellent mother figure in her life. He tries to keep her from getting involved in the murder investigations. However, Rick also has to remember that is how he has been raising his daughter. Rick is a fantastic bed and breakfast owner that sometimes helps out the police department. He is worried about Alex, though, since this investigation is a touchy one.

Alex Atwood is a curious girl learning new things every day at the bed and breakfast. She is happy to have Marquetta as her new mom, but she is looking forward to having a mom. Alex has been through so much in this novel that it makes her rethink whether being a junior detective is a good idea. She has also been wrapped up in helping Marquetta plan the wedding. Alex is an intelligent kid, and I love her journal entries.

The Mystery

The first mystery is about a diving accident that the police are trying to figure out if it was even an accident. The second mystery is a murder investigation because of how the victim died. I feel bad for Rick as he gets wrapped into solving the mystery while having Marquetta keep Alex occupied. Keeping Alex occupied is a bigger problem than anyone realizes. Alex finds out and launches her investigation, which almost gets her hurt. I had no clue who could have done the murders until it all came to light.
Five Stars

Lies, Spies, and the Baker's Surprise by Terry Ambrose is a perfect blend of weaving two narratives together. Mr. Ambrose incorporates both Rick and Alex's voices together, so the story works with these two sleuths. The family relationship between Rick, Alex, and Marquetta is perfect as the three of them make a cute family.

I am giving Lies, Spies, and the Baker's Surprise by Terry Ambrose five stars and recommend it to readers who like an excellent Cozy Mystery. Mr. Ambrose is one of my favorite authors to read at this moment.
