Water is scarce and is controlled by a few. The earth is more desert than green. People eat synthetic food and drink synthetic water while the real thing is a rare treasure that's worth a fortune. It's an interesting premise and I enjoyed the world and the plot of the book.

Where it fell flat, and the reason I did not rate higher, is because the characters really fell flat for me. There isn't much growth in any of them and there's very little emotion - even from the main character and it's written in the first person.

In general this was an enjoyable, thought provoking and quick read but had the potential to be so much better than it was.
