Sadly, while I liked this couple, and the story was intense, they were not my favorite of the Edge series.
Audrey Callahan is a thief who has a seriously crappy family. She is cunning and quick with a lock pick, but please do not give her a sword. When she steals something for her father and learns it will fall into the wrong hands, she agrees to help Kaldar and the Mirror retrieve it. Kaldar is a trained spy, lawyer, thief, and gambler. skilled in battle and in the bedroom he was charming. I laughed at all of his attempts to flirt with Audrey and oh lord the one-liners. *shakes head* Audrey is not fooled and knows he is after a roll in the hay. The banter between them was delicious, but I never quite felt that their feelings were authentic. I cared about them and rooted for them but Fate's Edge failed to make me swoon for them.
Once again, the world building was stellar and listening only enhanced my experience. Ilona Andrews had me holding my breath during some intense scenes. George and Jack were part of the story and they stole the show. I first learned about George and Jack when I read Clean Sweep and had no idea they were originally from the Edge series. They are the reason I went back and began the Edge series. Now, I totally understand the emotions fans felt as they read book two of the Innkeeper Chronicles.
While each of the books in the Edge series can be read as a standalone since they feature one couple and a quest I recommend reading them in order. Ilona Andrews does weave in previous characters and continues to flesh out the world in each installment.
Fate’s Edge was dark, intense, and addictive. I am a snob when it comes to this author, and prefer to listen on audio. Renee’ Raudman enhances my enjoyment, and Andrews’ novels spring to life during the narration. This review was originally posted on Caffeinated Book Reviewer
