After losing his first—and last—middle school volleyball match against Tobio Kageyama, “the King of the Court,” Shoyo Hinata swears to become his rival. But the guy he wants to defeat ends up becoming his teammate at Karasuno High School! The two will have to prove themselves capable of playing together if they want to have a future playing volleyball.

Team Karasuno realizes that their chances are even slimmer when they see who they’re up against in their block: Aoba Johsai and the Iron Wall of Date Tech!

The Inter-High match between Karasuno and Aoba Johsai continues. Star setter Tohru Oikawa has figured out the secret behind Kageyama’s and Hinata’s quick sets and has them on the ropes! When Kageyama loses his cool, he ends up getting benched and is subbed out by none other than third-year Koushi Sugawara. And Tadashi Yamaguchi is brought out as a pinch server! Will Karasuno’s new approach be enough for them to seize control of the game and win?

Hinata boldly declares that he won’t close his eyes for the Freak Quick anymore, but Kageyama isn’t having any of it. The two of them fight, setting the entire team back in the practice game. But after coming face-to-face with how polished the Tokyo teams are, Karasuno realizes that even with extra practice, the road to new skills and a better-prepared team is still long. Looking for new ways to fight in the air, Hinata goes to Fukurodani’s ace, Kotaro Bokuto, for some help.

Their first opponent is Johzenji, an unorthodox team of partiers that leaves Karasuno baffled about how to counter them! And when Karasuno’s captain, Daichi Sawamura, is injured in the quarterfinal round, Chikara Ennoshita steps up to replace him. Will this often-overlooked team member be able to bring the team to the semifinals?
