Routledge Studies in Fascism and the Far Right

Although there is a copious and burgeoning popular literature concerning "conspiracy theories," "Nazis and the occult," "secret societies," and "hidden orders" as well as rapidly developing cultural memes like the symbol of the "black sun," few books have delved into the intersection of esoteric religion and politics. Esoteric Religion and the Far Right is the first book to systematically analyse this sometimes sensational, sometimes controversial subject in a balanced way.
The book is organized historically, beginning by defining its twin subjects of esoteric religion and the global far right, and then discussing the historical origins of the many contemporary figures and movements that exemplify the intersection of these two areas, while at the same time recognizing the many fantastic elements (like hollow earth theories, UFO or alien technologies, and so forth) that seem almost omnipresent in the popular literature. The book also highlights consistent and important intellectual strands that we can trace from the wake of the Second World War to the present.
Subjects discussed include the German Conservative Revolution, Hitler and National Socialism, Esoteric Hitlerism, and Traditionalism, as well as influential figures such as Julius Evola, Savitri Devi, Miguel Serrano, and many others. Concluding with an analysis of the contemporary global far right movement, particularly in light of recent social, cultural, economic, and political developments in Europe, North America, and Australia, this book is essential reading for students, scholars and activists interested in the far right, as well as in politics, history and religion more generally.
