Some angels don’t get harps. We hunt demons.
I never asked to be an angel. Truthfully, being an angel kinda sucks.
This gig didn’t come with an instruction manual. No one told me about the mess of powers I’d inherit, with no idea how to control. Or that I’d black out when I fly, waking up naked in random places. Or that I could only sleep in windowless rooms.
Or that every time I pick up a weapon, there’s a good chance someone dies.
Oh, and I can’t drink alcohol anymore, since I randomly start fires.
Pretty hard to maintain a social life, given that––much less date.
But I, Dags Jourdain, do good. Sort of. I mean, I try.
When I’m not hunting demons, I work as a P.I. in Hollywood, California.
One night, I get in a demon fight in an alley, and accidentally save the life of a movie star, and everything changes. Meanwhile, someone opened a hell portal under the Hollywood sign, a dead guy left me his dog, and a homicide detective who hates me from high school is trying to decide if I’m a serial killer.
Did I mention being an angel kinda sucks?

I’ve spent weeks trying to forget about Phoenix X, the movie star who might be an angel and the one woman I can’t be with. I’ve hunted demons, consulted with priests, hired witches and psychics. I’ve picked up random women on the Sunset Strip.
Now a high school buddy shows up at my P.I. office, asking for my help. His wife, another old friend, mysteriously disappeared. I can’t say no to him, or to finding her.
And, wouldn’t you know it, demons are behind that, too.
What I don’t know yet, is that things are about to get a lot more complicated. And bloody. And covered in feathers. Bad things are heading my way. Demon pool parties, mystical anti-angel drugs, illicit make-out sessions, and guns, a lot of guns… and I really hate guns.
Bottom line, all those hell-portal demons are about to fight back. If I don’t get better, fast, at using my angelic powers, I might not make it out alive.

My oldest friend might just be Lucifer, Angel of Darkness. That definitely wasn’t something I had on my trying-to-do-good-for-humanity bingo card.
It’s not just demons I have to deal with now. The demons have a new master, and he just happens to be one of my best friends.
I might have to kill him. Then again, I might not be able to kill him, due to some arcane rule about angels not being able to kill other angels. In the meantime, he’s gone underground, I’ve been looking for him, and I’ve been training, knowing the day will come soon when I have to face him.
Then I get a call from Kara, homicide cop for the LAPD and sort-of friend of mine. She wants me to check out a grisly new murder in Koreatown, one she suspects might have supernatural origins. She thinks my old pal and new dark angel might be involved, and after I visit the scene, I worry she might be right.
I don’t know it yet, but things are about to get a lot weirder, with arcane witches, angel-worshipping cults, and a lot of things I wasn’t ready to know about myself, or about Phoenix, the one person above all who I’m trying to protect.

I stole Lucifer’s wife. I’m pretty sure he’s gunning for me now.
I’m not alone anymore. I’m pretty much the opposite of alone.
First there was Kara, the LAPD homicide detective who now knows what I am. Now I’ve got a house-full of people I need to protect from demons, and a movie star girlfriend who’s a newly awakening angel.
Oh, and I kidnapped one of my oldest friends, who happens to be married to a guy I grew up with, who I’m pretty sure is actually Lucifer.
As in the Lucifer. Angel of Darkness. Guy who brings badness.
His wife, Jade, might be an un-awakened fallen angel, too, but I can’t just hand her over to my old high school pal, Uri, her husband. Not when I know his motive numero uno will be to awaken her to join him in covering the world in darkness. Dealing with Uri on his own is bad enough. Dealing with two of them would be a nightmare, especially since my own girlfriend, Phoenix X, can’t control her new powers at all.
Worse, Phoenix just started work on a new action movie, so in addition to stressing about Uri wanting to kill her, she has to worry about her wings spontaneously bursting out of her back in mid-shoot.
All in all, it’s a weird time to be in Los Angeles.
Especially for a demon-hunting angel P.I. and his movie-star new-angel girlfriend.
