Biohistory

by Stephen Boyden

Published 15 April 1992
This volume presents an overview of the interplay between cultural and natural processes throughout human history. It is based on a conceptual approach which found early expression in a MAB pilot project on the ecology of the city of Hong Kong and its hinterland and which is now referred to as biohistory. This approach aims to ensure that, in the analysis of ecosystems, full consideration is taken of the impact of human activities on biophysical phenomena and the effect of these activities on human health and the quality of human life. Furthermore, cultural, social, historical, ethnic and biological influences on the environment are all examined.
