This is one of a series of fiction sets. It is designed to fill the reading-age gap between the Fiction Red (7-9) and Blue (9-11) sets. Each set consists of 8 children's fiction titles, four copies of each title for group work. Accompanying the books is the 208-page "Teachers' Resources", offering a range of activities, many based on photocopiable pages, to build up and reinforce literacy skills. The audio cassette contains excerpts from the children's books, and the photocopiable anthology of the "Teachers' Resources" serves as a model for reading aloud with feeling and intonation.
This boxed set is designed for the fluent readers in Year 2. There are likely to be about eight children in most Year 2 classes who need to move beyond the reading scheme books and discuss "real books" with a partner. Teachers, who recognise the need to extend these children's comprehension skills but are committed to helping the majority in the classroom who are still developing basic reading skills, should welcome this resource. Each set contains 24 books (12 titles for paired work), a "Teachers' Resources" and an audio cassette of readings from the selected books and the anthology section of the "Teachers' Resources".

This is one of two sets of book packages designed to meet the demand for specialized resources aimed at reluctant readers at Key Stage 2. Combining fiction, poetry and non-fiction, this resource aims to spark interest in reading in children who do not normally pick up books and turn that interest into continuing reading improvement. Each package contains 28 children's books, all in protective jackets and two copies of 12 titles for paired work. Accompanying the books is a teacher's manual containing activities to motivate and involve children in sustained reading, and to develop and reinforce the entire range of literacy skills. Two audio cassettes reiterate the message that reading is worthwhile. The Red set (7-9) is aimed at developing reading, and the Blue set (9-11) at motivating reading.
