This book is written for the general public as a guide to OThe DigO, a special feature of the Canada Before Cartier Hall in the National Museum of Man in Ottawa. OThe DigO is a reconstruction of an actual West Coast archaeological excavation, spanning 5,000 years of history of a Canadian Indian village. It is the story of the Coast Tsimshian people. Three chapters attempt to acquaint the reader with the scope, objectives and techniques of archaeology; with the interpretation of what is found in an archaeological excavation; and with the prehistory of the Coast Tsimshian villages and people, as revealed by National Museum of Man archaeological projects. Mr. Richard I. Inglis is an archaeological research for the Archaeological Survey of Canada, responsible for West Coast Archaeology. Dr. George F. MacDonald is Chief of the Archaeological Survey of Canada, National Museum of Man.
