In Switzerland, as in most western countries, population ageing is an unavoidable reality that will have effects for at least the next fifty years. In order to anticipate its effects, it is vital to understand precisely what changes are taking place and how they will affect society and everyday life. This report presents a broad picture of the challenges and opportunities of population ageing in Switzerland. The focus will be on seniors themselves, rather than the household, and will provide an overall picture of the main, basic aspects of life conditions of seniors in the context of population ageing. Population ageing is transforming the sociodemographic panorama in two ways: the meaning of older age is changing and the relations between generations are evolving.
